What I Wore- Friday 3/2/12

One day, when there is a big office I go into every day- I am going to enjoy Dressy Fridays. I like places that are doing that as an answer to Casual Fridays.  What's wrong with getting dressed up for no better reason than just 'cause?!? 

Here is my Dressy Friday Fun for March:

I love this outfit! It's equal parts dressy and super dance-class chic all wrapped into one. Since it is basically a tank top and leggings covered in a sheer dress it is one of those outfits I just get in the mood for and it wears me.  When I got the dress at Jet Rag it was fully lined and the sleeves were the only part sheer.  By removing the lining and re-working the top of the dress I got this fun shell that I can pair over a relaxed outfit and feel more dressed up than I am :) Plus, I like my secret love these ridiculous sequined shoes. They just make me smile. I could look for just about any reason to wear these suckers out- but I feel they need to be paired in an outfit that lets them shine.  The moment I saw these back in the good 'ol Urban days- I instantly squealed and smiled like a little girl at Christmas!!! Dorky- probably, but I just look down and it makes me want to tap my feet and smile. Its AH-Mazing!!!

 

You know what else makes me so smiley? Did you know March is National Craft Month??

 

It gets me as excited as sparkly things; thinking about a month all about crafting!!! Are you doing anything fun for the month? I have some thing exciting going on tomorrow in Torrance. I will give y'all more details soon when I can, but as for now I will state that I have a craft demo to prepare for and I am really anxious and nervous for tomorrow.  I think it is a stress reaction but it has me all hopped to get stuff done so alas, I must head back to work.

What I Wore- Friday 12/09/11

Hi guys! During this time of the year when everyone gets sick usually I can skate by and miss the general yuck.  What I miss in flu season my lady migraines make up for, for sure- but this week has been kicking my butt. At first I thought I maybe coming down with the Flu after exhausting myself planning on UNIQUE LA, but thankfully that wasn't the case.  The unfortunate thing that happened instead was that I got a sinus infection.  I think I have had sinus infections before, but I either didn't realize what it was or it wasn't bad enough to bother me.  This morning however was horrible and when I was able to get to the doctor I found out that I had a migraine on top of sinus infection :( No Buenos. 

Tomorrow I am hosting a Christmas Craft Party Extravaganza at our place and between cleaning/ prepping for that and working on the last batch of Reinbeers, I have been neglecting posting pictures to the blog. They are on Flickr however so if you are needing a fix on the updates or if you need the pictures grab them there :) I will be working through the Holidays getting things labeled and posted.

This dress was everyone's favorite of my Top Shop shopping trip in NYC back in May.  Read more about other outfits from this trip here. Kevin loves yellow, and everyone (the shop girls + Alisa) had nothing but nice things to say about how I looked in this dress and I am glad I listened to them and purchased it.  

When I feel crappy it really makes me happy.  I love how colorful and playful it is.  Plus it is super comfy for working around the house. 

I am obsessed with BOWS! These little shoes are my favorite black flats right now.  Wanna see more bow inspirations check out our Bow board on Pinterest.

I love this cummerbund that I found one of my first trips to Jet Rag.  There was one batch of clothes that took me back to chorus in middle school- We wore black pants, white button up shirts and a red cummerbund. The batch at Jet Rag must have been for people with similar uniforms only the base is black and there was pink, purple, and green motifs- way better than plan 'ol red. I have been waiting for an opportunity to rock out and make the cummerbund a statement piece and I really like mixing patterns when something is this busy. Maybe I can work it into a holiday party outfit... hmmmm. Jeez, no I am trailing trying to think of what I'll be wearing all holidays- I really need to get on making some outfits.  I love dressing all fun over the holidays!!! Even More 2nd-Hand Shopping

Yesterday, Alisa, Heather and I, went back to Jet Rag for the $1 Sale I blogged about last week.  You can check out last weeks post here. Whenever Alisa is in town from NYC we always hit up Jet Rag, but this was the first time she had ever witnessed the dollar sale. 

Wanna see the craziness unfold??? Alisa took this video shortly after they cracked open the bundles while everyone was scurrying around for clothes.

We all had a great time and got some super cute clothes which I can wait to get cleaned up and post some pictures of how I style things. I left with less than half as many items this week as I found last Sunday at Jet Rag.  Strangely that is one of the fun things about this sale, you never quite know what you'll find. What I found was totally amazing and we found a bunch of things that were perfect for Heather. I am thinking that I am going to try to post on Fridays vintage finds and/or a  what I wore section... At least this week since I have been crazy shopping.

After Jet Rag I had the most delicious vegan scramble at Swingers Restaurant! This was my first time eating the avocado toast and that was pretty F#$% tasty!!! I don't go up to West Hollywood too often to eat since there is such a wonderful variety of restaurants where I live in Culver City- but Swingers has great vegetarian and vegan options (this should be a whole separate post, but yay! I am going vegan again :) If I called it a themed restaurant I feel like that wouldn't encapsulate everything... basically it has a really great unique atmosphere that I enjoy going to with out-of-town guests. Bonus: it has really tasty and unique takes on some of your favorite diner classics use organic items as much as possible.

Following lunch we headed over to the Melrose Trading Post held at Farifax High School.  This is another Sunday thrifting  must! Over the 3 years since I have moved to LA, this market seems to have tripled!!! There is furniture, clothes, jewelry, artwork, original artwork and much more. Parking is FREE and it is a $2 dollar entrance fee. Included with admission is live music, food vendors, and real bathrooms :) 

I wasn't expecting to leave with more furniture, but Alisa and I came across this cabinet/ shelf  piece that I just had to have!!!

I like how there is a tool box style lid with a handle that flips up. It seems like it could have fit records in the top- I am not quite sure it's original use.  It is light enough that it could have been used as an equipment box for something since it is easy to carry it. There is a door that opens to two shelves at the bottom to where the storage capabilities of this thing are endless!

Cost: Under $50

Then today we continued the fun in Santa Monica where Alisa and I met Kevin for lunch. Afterward we shopped at the Goodwill on Santa Monica Blvd- which has crazy good designer finds, FYI.  

Satisfying the only part of our budget for the higher-end finds we went to Wasteland (There are several locations) where they sell the hottest modern, vintage and designer clothing.  I just found out under their "collecting" tab- they have a huge museum-esque private collection of vintage and designer clothing and accessories  you can rent for movies and special evens- I will have to put a pin in that one for sure!!!

Funny thing happened at Wasteland: I definitely had the girl behind me start talking to me and when I turned around it was totally Zosia Mamet looking back at me! Now you would think I would be totally cool at not embarrassing myself when I geek out over celebrities, but I was the biggest loser cliche today.  First thing, I just generally like things and will become the biggest cheerleader for it. Class superlative: I was definitely most school spirit, crazy to think but true.  

I seem to get totally emotionally engaged in characters and things I like- mind you, I love watching TV and movies while I craft so I go deep into a wide range of all types of media. Sometimes, after watching them I will never remember more that I really liked what I watched than anything memorable, and sometimes an actor will really get me into their part. 

Sunday Thrifting- Jet Rag $1 SALE

My favorite vintage clothing shop in LA is by far Jet Rag.  I feel like the prices are really reasonable, especially compared to  previous Brooklyn vintage shopping!  Bonus: They separate the clothing by decade and color which helps not get lost for hours in this huge store. FYI-Their organization got me to realize my go to favorite is '70's dresses.  

The store is always on my guests "must list" which helps me get my regular fixes.  I try to only go with friends to curb my excitement because each visit always seem to result in a exciting haul. Like for instance, I have huge feet (embarrassing I know) but I have been able to find several pairs of kick-ass boots for ~$30 or less on multiple occasions!!! 

All this is pale in comparison to being able to get some awesome finds for just $1.00 at their weekly yard sale.  Plus, each Sunday they unveil "mystery box inventory" which is the same stuff the store picks from but you have an opportunity to get it first at also just $1.00.


Coming to this sale is absolutely why the top of my list of why I love LA is yard sales & unbelievable vintage markets!  The $1.00 SALE at Jet Rag is definitely the icing on my cake pop. I am going to start sharing some of my favorite spots for those of you who are looking for a treasure hunt and this $1.00 sale is #1 for thrifty fashionistas.
