About Me: About Us
So, after planning my new "schedule" for myself yesterday I have decided that my first Thoughtful Thursday Post would be about "Make Shop Live"- About KC and Kevin Sears (Us, my husband and I) and all of our great friends who make everything possible. Due to circumstances out of my control I have been trying to ride behind the scenes of anonymity for awhile- but I realize that people need to feel the same connection to us as the one we feel within our entity.... So here it is:
In college, Savannah College of Art and Design, I met my husband Kevin and all of my wonderful friends that are such a big part of who I am today. It wasn't until I was out of college that I realized how blessed I was within my major to discuss, plan, and organize my working process with others. I enjoyed my creative jobs, but I wanted to do my own thing. Then when doing my own thing all I really wanted to do was my own thing with all my friends. As time was passing there would be times that we would bounce ideas off each other for projects or opportunities. Sometimes we would fantasize about joint ventures to come... But I wanted so selfishly to have everyone to work with me. This idea still hasn't necessarily come to fruition, but as it evolves I am glad to have everyone be a part of something within their own limits and time constraints.
First game plan was I was going to make a platform where we as individuals made up the greater whole, and together made up some sort of collective or encompassing brand. I hope something like that still can come together. As for now everyone is still trying to find out our own place in the world and we come together in a different, better way. Right now we all keep in-touch across the country by tons of care packages and lots of love back and forth.
None of our products could be made without all of our friends and family collecting "supplies" and helping us better the earth one piece of "trash" at a time. Really I just want to make stuff for my loved ones and if its cool maybe make some for other people too! Also, nothing could be made without the support of my Husband Kevin. Kevin has been so supportive emotionally, spiritually, and financially, as this endeavor has been escalated by me being physically unable to work my job recently. He realizes that my idol mind will drive me crazy and I am so blessed that he is responsible for the major portion of the labor. I don't know how he hasn't gotten frustrated yet with working full time and owning/ managing the business, but I knew I had a gem before- this just concretes that fact in my mind :) I am also so luck to have friends that understand my frustrations and my limitations so they visit and make stuff with me or we even had a friend that was trying to relocate and payed his room and board with slave labor- hehehe
I guess I get the fun part of the whole operation. I like meeting people, doing events, and I am starting to like even dealing with stuff online... But its bittersweet. Really the thing that should make me feel whole as a person reminds me that "yes, I am blessed with an amazing support group" but that I am no longer whole on my own. I don't want to sound whiny, and I know there are things everyone overcomes... but I was/ am so independent that it has been a tough pill to swallow that I can't conquer everything on my own. Hmmmmm, everything is harsh. Maybe not everything, but more times than not there are things I can't do on my own anymore. Its getting easier, and we are all finding our place in the mix. For all these things I am eternally grateful for my loved ones.
In a nutshell Make Shop Live is about Living a lifestyle that's creative, supportive, fun, and socially responsible all at the same time. I am pretty stoked to see how it evolves and matures as the time passes and we all figure out what the heck we're doing! I hope that our love for each other and the planet show in each one of our great products-
